4th. World Futsal Championship in Buenos Aires
Argentina, twice world champion of futsal for the blind!
01 / 12 / 2006
The Argentinean national team, known popularly as the "bats", achieved their second championship with an adjusted victory by 1-0 against Brazil. Silvio Velo, the figure and goal scorer of the team, was the author of the victory goal. With this new consecration, the white and blue combine confirmed the title achieved in 2002, in Río de Janeiro, where it conquered Spain by 4-2.
The national team of Paraguay, meanwhile, achieved the 3rd. position when overcoming Spain 2-1. The tournament was played in Buenos Aires, and nearly 2000 people attended the final.
The "bats" had their revenge with Brazil
Argentina arrived to the final, after overcoming Paraguay in the semifinal by 3-1. Brazil, current Olympic champion in Athens 2004, had done its own against Spain by 3-0. In the first half, the green and yellows dominated the match thanks to Sandro in the middle and the good attack game of Ricardo, a 17 year-old youth, who with ability and speed was able to put into difficulties the host combine more than once. Argentina showed a more defensive posture from the beginning, it found it difficult to recoup the ball, and its star, Silvio Velo, could do little in the front.
